(July, 2011) Franklin International is celebrating the one-year anniversary of its Titebond Instant Bond Wood Adhesive with the unveiling of an all-in-one Instant Bond kit that contains all four viscosities of the quick-setting cyanoacrylate (CA) adhesive, an accelerator — and a bonus bottle of Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue.
The kit was unveiled at the 2009 Association of Wood Working & Furnishing Suppliers show, AWFS® Vegas, held in Las Vegas July 15 to July 18.
The Instant Bond kit contains a two-ounce bottle of each Instant Bond viscosity, including thin, medium, thick and gel; and a two-ounce bottle of Instant Bond Activator, a heptane-based bonding accelerator that halves set and cure times. The kit offers a convenient — and economical — alternative to purchasing these products individually and provides the woodworker with the full selection of formulations for best results in an array of applications.
The kit is expected to cost an average 40 percent less than the actual total price of all products packed within.
Instant Bond is a powerful two-part, ethyl-based cyanoacrylate (CA) adhesive that offers nearly instant adhesion capabilities. Depending upon viscosity, it can set in as little as five seconds and cure in 30 when used in combination with Instant Bond Activator.
The fastest-setting Titebond glue available is as noteworthy for its versatility as for its speed of set. First, the four viscosities meet particular applications and MIL specifications:
- Thin, for bonding hairline cracks in wood, as a wood finish or to repair loose veneer edges
- Medium, to bond miniature moldings, model airplanes or pen tubes to pen blanks
- Thick, to bond jigs and fixtures, miter joints for crown moldings or granite countertops
- Gel, for use in cabinet installation, to fill gaps, or to bond MDF and other porous woods.
In addition, although specially formulated for use on wood, Instant Bond also works on a host of other substrates. It instantly bonds materials from aluminum to PVC, from porcelain to stainless steel.
Whether purchased as individual bottles or in the kit, Instant Bond offers good value through an unusually long, two-year shelf life; and a waste-reducing no-clog applicator. Strength of over 4,000 psi, high impact-resistance and service temperature range from -65 degrees to over 200 degrees Fahrenheit make the bond as durable over the long-term as it is quick to set.
The addition of Titebond III rounds out the versatility of the new Instant Bond kit by offering a formulation that is waterproof and offers an extended open time of ten minutes. It also is the perfect wood glue to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Instant Bond: It is the one-and-only one-part wood glue to meet ANSI/HPVA Type 1 specification for water resistance.
Titebond Instant Bond Wood Adhesive is available individually in two-, four- and eight-ounce bottles. Titebond Instant Bond Activator is offered in two-and eight-ounce pump spray bottles. Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue is available in containers ranging from a four-ounce bottle to a 55-gallon drum.
The new Titebond Instant Bond kit is available in the U.S. through cabinet shop distributors. For more information on Titebond Instant Bond Wood Adhesive or Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue, visit www.titebond.com or contact Franklin International’s Technical Support Team at 1-800-347-GLUE (4583).
